Getting ready for BSidesLondon – Support the Rookie Track!

Deadlines are great. They serve as a great syscall. Everything must be ready and be written to disk. The schedule of BSidesLondon was already stored and forwarded. Have a look! It’s worth it! The titles sound great. We recommend having some IPv6 as a starter (IPv4 is really getting scarce these days). The main dish should have some pieces of cloud platforms, RF hacking, SOCs, and power grid. Emotet, GPUs, and Windows Event Log forensics. Don’t forget to support the rookies by attending their presentations. They put a lot of effort into the preparation, and they have lots of interesting topics ready for you. BSidesLondon 2018 Rookie Track Follow-Up

We would like to share some impressions about the BSidesLondon 2018 Rookie Track presentations. It gets hard and harder to tell which one of the talks is the best. And picking a winner is not the right approach. We do this, because we can only invite one person to DeepSec, and because the intention is to have a motivation to work hard on the presentation. BSidesLondon 2017 – Sharing is indeed Caring

When airport security meets information security it’s usually BSidesLondon time. It was a great experience. And since DeepSec sponsors the Rookie Track we had a very tough decision to make. It’s really hard to pick a winner. A lot of presentations were excellent, and the presenters made the most out of the 15 minutes. The winner is Thaís for her introduction to malware analysis by using satisfiability modulo theories (SMT). If you get the chance of seeing her presenting somewhere, take a seat and listen to her. We also like to recommend Colette‘s presentation titled ‘How the f**k do I get in? One woman’s struggle to break into cyber security!’. Despite the title it was not a rant, it was a clear and concise summary of the state of affairs for women in technology.

BSidesLND2016 Rookie Track Review

Sitting through the Rookie Track at BSidesLondon is something we really enjoy. This year the quality of the presentations was amazing. Of course, the rookie’s mentors take a part of the blame for that. Good training gives you always a head start. Nevertheless someone has to stand in front of the crowd and fill the 15 minutes slot with content. All rookies did a good job. It was hard to pick a clear winner. In case you haven’t noticed, the London BSides schedule is up. The Rookie track starts right with the most important part of information security – opsec. Behaviour is on a par with expensive security hardware and your favourite protection software. Wearables, video games, hidden data, malware mythbusting, and more follow next. The main schedule features presentations about the impact of TOR/I2P traffic to your servers (think or best forget about CloudFlare), methods used by options advanced attackers, attacking Low Powered Wide Area Network (LPWAN) devices used for smart / IoT stuff, malicious software, static code analysis, threat analysis, the temptation of containers, and honey pots.
